A 31-year-old man was arrested on Saturday at the Gibeon T-junction on the B1 road after he was allegedly found with drugs worth N$40 370 during a police operation.

Hardap police acting crime investigations coordinator, Detective Chief Inspector Simon Hauwanga, said on Sunday the arrest happened at about 08:30.

“It is alleged that the suspect was found in possession of 301 full mandrax tablets and three packs of skunk cannabis weighing 85 grams during the police search, with the intention of dealing in dependence-producing drugs,” Hauwanga said.

The suspect was expected to appear in the Mariental Magistrate's Court yesterday.

Police investigations continue.

Meanwhile, a 54-year-old man died after the car he was travelling in overturned near Aussenkehr in the //Karas Region on Saturday.

//Karas police crime investigations coordinator, Deputy Commissioner Chrispin Mubebo, said the deceased has been identified as Gerhard Mukuve.

The accident occurred at around 11:15, about five kilometres outside Aussenkehr.

“It is alleged that the driver and his friends were on their way to the Orange River from Aussenkehr to go fishing when he lost control of the vehicle and it overturned,” Mubebo said.

Two other men in the vehicle were slightly injured, while another man was seriously injured.

Mubebo said the seriously injured man was taken to the Karasburg State Hospital for treatment.

According to the police, the driver of the vehicle allegedly did not have a driver's licence and a case of culpable homicide has been opened.
