Leadership void filled at NamPower
National energy utility NamPower this week announced the appointment of Kahenge Haulofu as its new managing director, effective from 1 July 2016.
Haulofu has been acting in the position since 15 October 2015, following the suspension of Paulinus Shilamba by the board of directors in July last year.
Haulofu joined NamPower 18 years ago as manager for construction projects. Between 2003 and 2007 he formed part of the Executive Management Committee as general manager for power generation.
He started his career at the then Department of Water Affairs, and later served as planning engineer at NamWater.
He holds a BSc degree in civil engineering from Tampere University of Technology in Finland.
He currently serves as chairperson of the boards of directors of the Central Northern Regional Electricity Distributor (CENORED) and the Western Power Corridor Company.
He also serves as chairperson of the Baynes Committee of the Angola-Namibia Permanent Joint Technical Commission on the Cunene River Basin, to develop the Baynes hydropower plant.
“My task is to provide leadership, especially now that NamPower is tasked with putting in place a base-load power station by 2020 in order to ensure security of supply,” Haulofu said of his appointment.
