The Namibia Rugby Union (NRU) has announced the appointment of Christel Janet ‘CJ’ Kotze as head coach of the national senior women’s team and women’s sevens team.

The 29-year-old Kotze represented the women’s national side from 2014 to 2016 and was the vice-captain of the side during the 2016 season. She holds a World Rugby Level 2 sevens coaching certificate as well as World Rugby Level 1 fifteens coaching certificate.

She coached the Windhoek High School girls’ rugby side from 2020 to 2021 as well as the Wanderers women’s rugby side in the same year.

She is also a producer for a local rugby show called ‘Absolute Rugby’ at the Namibia Broadcasting Corporation.

In 2019 she was selected among 12 women across Africa for the Rugby Africa’s ‘Try and Stop Us’ campaign.

NRU interim CEO Theo Grunewald said Kotze with her passion, experience and skills will lead the women’s teams to realising their full potential.

“The NRU welcomes Kotze on board and believes that together we will take Namibian women’s rugby to heights never experienced before,” reads the statement.
