Khomas Superliga sorg vir hope pret

Die Khomas Superliga-atletiekbyeenkoms het Saterdag by die Onafhanklikheidstadion in Windhoek plaasgevind.

Die byeenkoms het om 09:00 afgeskop en atlete het in groot getalle opgedaag om hul talente en vaardighede ten toon te stel.

Midde die huidige Covid-19-pandemie is die beperkings en maatreëls om atlete, afrigters en beamptes veilig te hou deurgaans beklemtoon.

Die atlete en beperkte aantal toeskouers is voortdurend daaraan herinner om ’n veilige sosiale afstand te handhaaf, hul hande te ontsmet en hul maskers aan te hou.

Verskeie atlete het die atmosfeer beskryf as ’n opwindende manier om aktief te bly en steeds mededingend te kan wees.

Anna Shikwambi, wat onder die o.13-meisies was wat aan hoogspring deelgeneem het, was dankbaar vir die geleentheid om haar liefde vir atletiek met ander te deel.

"Ek is gek oor atletiek. Ek is bly om hier te wees en my ouers trots te maak. Dit is wonderlik om mee te ding en ek gee altyd my bes om te wen.”

Die atlete – vanaf o.12 tot senior mans en vroue – kon aan onder meer hoogspring, verspring, gewigstoot en ’n verskeidenheid baanitems deelneem.

Diegene van die Khomasstreek en ander van nabygeleë dorpe het opgedaag, met atlete wat mekaar ook aangespoor het weens die beperkte aantal toeskouers.

Die atmosfeer was vol pret, maar ook vriendelike kompetisie, energie en passie vir die sport. Die atlete was goed voorberei en vasbeslote om hul doelwitte te bereik.

Die organiseerder van die Khomas Superliga, mnr. Ernst Narib, sê dit is belangrik vir die jeug om aktief te bly en te volhard. Hy het ook self deelgeneem en eerste in al sy wedlope gekom.

“Ek het vandag gekom, nie net om te organiseer nie, maar ook om self aan verskeie items deel te neem. Ek wil graag vir die jeug ook ’n voorbeeld stel. Ek was ook ’n jong seun wat saam met ouer mense geoefen het. Al die werk wat ek ingesit het, het my regtig so vinnig gemaak soos ek vandag is,” het hy gesê.

Imanuel Samuntu was een van die atlete wat tydens die byeenkoms ’n indruk gemaak het. Hy het aan die hoogspring vir senior mans deelgeneem.

Samuntu was tevrede met sy prestasies en dankbaar vir die getroue ondersteuning van familie en vriende.

“Die ondersteuning wat ek ontvang het, het my meer energie gegee om aan te gaan, al was ek uitgeput. Ek is dankbaar vir my skoolvriende en familie wat hier was om my te ondersteun. Ek sien baie daarna uit om weer te oefen en op hierdie sukses te bou. Ek wil by die volgende byeenkomste opdaag met nog meer energie en gereed wees om te groei en my talente verder te ontwikkel.”
