Keeping it real

Cindy Van Wyk
Right, good people. We could never have predicted the awesome reception our first Hunter’s tjil Sessions received last month. That was definitely a big moment for the tjil brand, our audience and the culture as a whole.

To be honest, whenever we decide to tackle an idea, concept or show, I cannot help but reflect on some of the realest and most self-defining conversations I had with my former editor, Festus Nakatana, who doubles as a sensei. I specifically remember the day he told me that I was the next big thing. I still have that email. And from that moment on, I have constantly kept that sentence within my heart, mind and spirit for real.

My belief is that the importance of my work as Namibian Sun’s entertainment journalist will outweigh the mainstream industry’s expectations of catering to only one market. tjil has been a servant of Namibia’s art and entertainment culture for years now and it is this heritage that will continue our progressive nature. We can never and will never forget the number of big Namibian artists who have graced our covers prior to their current success. This special connection between us and the people has resonated throughout our past, throughout our present and will resonate throughout our new Hunter’s tjil Sessions show.

Hunter’s tjil Sessions is our representation of the trust and love we have for those fighting to get to the level they’ve dreamt about all their lives. This show is our way of saying we believe in and see all the big dreamers, music fans and game-changers out there. The idea behind Hunter’s tjil Sessions is to continue to allow Namibians to enjoy the magic of music in a time when music shows are suspended. So, set your reminders for 18:00 today to catch singers Waters and SHE perform at the second edition of Hunter’s tjil Sessions. The show will be aired on the Namibian Sun and Hunter’s Namibia Facebook pages.

The Namibian music scene keeps getting more music than we know what to do with, but we wouldn’t want these songs to escape your listening pleasure. So, for this edition, we have stories on TKB and Slickartie, who recently put out new music. I do not want to spoil it for you but I trust you will enjoy reading this edition. Have a great weekend and take care!
