Keeping it real

Cindy Van Wyk
The way we consume music has changed. While CDs are still a thing for many Namibians, the pace at which artists upload music onto digital streaming platforms is not impressive.

We have made good strides as country by launching Namibian-owned digital music stores. However, I do not believe our artists share enough of their songs on there. It is disappointing when an artist shares their own music through WhatsApp. Something they can make available on streaming platforms and monetise.

It hurts me every single day that most classic Namibian albums aren’t available online. Not only for the monetary value, but for the sake of documenting Namibian music. So, in a nutshell, we can sell CDs to the market that’s there, but let’s not exclude online platforms – now more than ever.
