Kashindi gets nod as Omusati CRO
The Omusati regional council has appointed Gervasius Kashindi as its new chief regional officer (CRO).
Kashindi, who is the current director of general services, replaces Protasius Andowa, whose contract expired in November last year and was not renewed. Andowa joined the regional council as CRO in November 2003.
This was announced by regional council chairperson Modestus Amutse during a special council meeting on Monday.
Kashindi's appointment is effective from 1 October.
Amutse described Kashindi as knowledgeable and a true leader, who has served the regional council for over 10 years.
“As regional councillors, we have confidence in Kashindi. During the last financial year, the council named him the overall best performer, and apart from that, during his tenure with the council he has been one of the employees who has been leading their division by example,” Amutse said.
“When he was acting CRO for the last 10 months, Omusati was among the few regional councils in the country whose performance was rated excellent by the line ministry, when a review was done two months ago. Also our audit report was on point, because we are one of the three regions that obtained an unqualified audit report. I am attributing all these to Kashindi.”
Amutse added that Kashindi's management style is that he goes into the field to monitor the progress of projects. He, therefore, makes sure that the reports he receives are truly a reflection of what is happening on the ground.
Andowa said he told the council not to extend his employment contract for a fourth time, because he is tired and would like to be relieved of the pressure associated with the job.
In August 2016 the Omusati regional council suspended Andowa and deputy director of finance Elizabeth Mutota, accusing them of mismanagement.
They were investigated over N$12.3 million that allegedly went missing, but the allegations proved unfounded.
Andowa was reinstated until his contract ended last year.
