'It's just not working out for me' – AKA on shutting down his company
AKA left many of his fans in complete shock after he took to Twitter to announce that he would be shutting down Beam Group.
In a series of tweets AKA explained to his followers why he had taken the grave decision to discontinue the services of the digital company he established with Prince Nyembe.
“Unfortunately, I also have to announce that Beam Group now no longer represents or manages me in ANY capacity,” tweeted the Fela and Versace hitmaker.
“While I remain the owner of the company, I'm actually in the process of shutting it down.”
According to the company's official website “Beam Digital was formed to create a more sustainable model for various industries where icons are not benefiting from their following.”
“We started the company with the best of intentions, unfortunately it's just not working out for me the way I wanted it to,” tweeted the rapper to which he added, “…so I'm taking my ball and going to play elsewhere.”
The 30-year-old rapper who recently opened up about his break up with media personality Bonang Matheba, admitted in the spate of tweets that this was the nature of business, “…you try, you fail, you get up, you dust yourself off and you keep it moving.”
“The truth is, AKA is really the “company”. So having a company is actually quite pointless since I'm AKA,” the rapper further explained.
Where does this leave his business partner Prince?
“It means that I wish him all the best. He's a great businessman, I'm sure he'll go on to do awesome things,” replied AKA responding to a tweep.
The unexpected announcement to shut down Beam Group comes after weeks of speculation following the sudden departure of Blaq Smith the company's photographer and Tshiamo Letshwene the road manager.
