The InfoHut Centre in Namibia is offering its facilities at Oniipa and Onakayale for free to teachers who are struggling with e-learning.
The Evangelical Lutheran Church in Namibia (ELCIN) centre is responsible for training youth and church workers in computer literacy and life skills.
It also assists youth to engage in behaviour that prevents the spread of HIV and teaches life skills through computers.
Oniipa centre project coordinator, Ester Sakaria, told Namibian Sun they have 20 computers that can be used by teachers to develop their online learning activities at no cost.
ICT challenge
Sakaria said they learnt that many schools either have limited or no information and communication technology (ICT) facilities at their schools, while they are required to implement e-learning amid the coronavirus pandemic.
“We understand that many schools have only one computer that is mostly used by the secretary and teachers are requested to hand their handwritten activities to the secretary to type.
“This is challenging, as teachers are required to use computers now more than ever,” Sakaria said.
“Teachers can make use our centre any time to type or design their activities. We can also assist them in setting up Zoom classes with their learners. This is a community project and therefore no fees are to be paid.”
Sakaria can be contacted on 081 756 0500.
