Youthful boxing star Flame Nangolo did not mince his words yesterday and vowed to beat up his opponent, Gustav Petrus, at the May Day Boxing event organised by Africa Connections Boxing Promotions.

The event will take place on Saturday at the NamPower Convention Centre in Windhoek.

“I'm going to show my skills and beat this kid up. He can't do anything to me. This is a step closer to my best performance. I don't know more about him. He hasn't done anything for me to be worried. Just another guy Infront of me that I'm going to beat up.

“I'm going to beat him in all the ways possible. I'm just going to be on him,” said the young boxer. He further spoke about training. “Training has been tough, there are times I feel that it's getting worse, but this is the only way to go. You have to push harder to get better.” Asked what the expectations will be on fight night and whether it will be a knockout, Nangolo said it would depend on the way he feels on the night. “If I feel like I want to beat him up, I will have to do that, it just depends on how I feel on the night,” Nangolo said boldly.

I expect an easy fight

Harry Simon Jr, who will fight Dominikus Weyulu on the night, said the fight will be short. He said he will finish the fight within four rounds.

“If you work with the best, you don't have to worry about the rest. This is a rematch between us. In a rematch you have to expect a little more. I know about him, he is strong, he is a bit fast. But I will fight him from far, because he is a short guy. I expect the best.

“He is worth another chance with me, because he brought out the best in me in our previous fight. It was war. I haven't looked at his recent record, I'm not afraid of it, I'm looking at him from his last fight.” Simon added that training has been good.

“This is the best training camp in my career. We have been working on different tactics. If you are happy with training, you will see progress. We spar with different guys from different boxers, something we never did. We used to spar with the same and do the same routine.” Simon was formerly with MTC Nestor Sunshine Tobias Promotions. “We have a great team with the likes of conditioning coach Martin Angombe. They are bringing out the best in us; here you can see your true potential,” added Simon.
