Swakop Uranium yesterday confirmed the death of one of its haul truck operators at the Husab Mine.

Manfred Gaoseb died after the heavy vehicle he was driving crashed into the mining highwall.

The incident occurred on Monday at 16:09. The deceased was 42 years old.

“The company's emergency procedures were immediately activated by informing the Ministry of Mines and Energy (MME) and the Namibian police. Our industrial safety and occupational health personnel proceeded to the scene to assist the Namibian police to carry out the rescue work,” the company said in a statement.

Formal investigations will be conducted by the MME and the police, with the full support of Swakop Uranium.

“The directors of the company and all employees expressed our heartfelt condolences to the family of the late Mr Gaoseb,” the company added.
