Namibia’s senior women’s hockey team have their sights set on winning the ultimate prize at next year’s world cup.

In 2018, the team went to the world cup with the aim of finishing eighth but ended up finishing ninth at that competition.

National team coach Erwin Handura says they will try to win the world cup this time around.

“I believe we have a team even better than what we had at the previous world cup and that will make things even better for us.

“Last time, we aimed to finish eighth but we finished a place below that and that is why we do not want to repeat that mistake.

“We are going all out this time around to make sure that we get gold at the world cup,” Handura said.

The Indoor Hockey World Cup will take place in Belgium next February.

The women’s team will be accompanied by the men’s team, which qualified for the tournament on a wild card after coming second at the Nations Cup.

“We do not want any interference and politics but to do things our way as we prepare for this big competition,” Handura added.

Handura said this at an event where the team members going to the world cup were announced.
