Hage, Monica to attend Buhari inauguration
President Hage Geingob and First Lady Monica Geingos will leave today to attend the inauguration of Nigerian president-elect Muhammadu Buhari in Abuja, Nigeria.
The first couple will be accompanied by the Deputy Prime Minister and the Minister of International Relations and Co-operation, Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah.
General Muhammadu Buhari’s All Progressive Congress (APC) won with over 15 million votes while current president Goodluck Jonathan’s People’s Democratic Party garnered 13 million votes.
This is expected to be first peaceful transfer of power to an elected opposition leader in Nigeria.
Geingob is expected to discuss various opportunities between the countries.
Namibia and Nigeria have various agreements on mining, mineral processing, tourism, health, supply of specialised volunteers, culture and education.
In January 2015, 19 Nigerian volunteer teachers of mathematics, physical science, biology and agriculture arrived in Namibia. They are stationed at schools in the Kunene, Omusati, Oshana, Kavango, Hardap and Otjozondjupa regions.
