Several rapes of minors by adult men, which sometimes stretched over months or years, were reported this past weekend.

At Katutura, it was reported that a 13-year-old girl was allegedly raped by a man for three years on several occasions. According to the police, the rapes occurred from December 2017 to April 2020 in the Okamatapati area of the Otjozondjupa Region. No arrest has been made.

More rapes

In a separate incident reported at Koës, a 13-year-old girl was raped by 42-year-old man on several occasions.

These rapes occurred between April and May this year. The suspect has been arrested.

In another incident, a 13-year-old girl was raped at the Goreangab Dam on Friday. The suspect has not been arrested.

Attempted murder, suicide

In a separate incident at Swakopmund on Friday, a 30-year-old man committed suicide after he tried to kill his former colleague.

According to the police, the body of Gerson Si Disho, who is a former employee of the Sea Salt Company, was discovered on Friday with a gunshot wound to the head.

A pistol was discovered next to the body, while a suicide note was found in his pocket.

It is alleged that Disho on Friday went to the Sea Salt Company and tried to shoot his former colleague.

Accidents, housebreakings, drugs

Meanwhile, 11 people died in seven separate accidents reported over the weekend.

The police have also expressed concern over the number of housebreakings that occurred over the long weekend and cautioned the public to stay safe.

At least 12 housebreakings were reported across the country.

Furthermore, a total of 15 people - 13 men and two women - were arrested in the Erongo, Khomas, Omaheke, Oshikoto, Kavango East and Hardap regions for possession and/or dealing in drugs such as mandrax and cannabis. Drugs to the value of N$347 610 were confiscated.
