A Swakopmund pensioner has been denied bail by the local magistrate’s court after he lured an 18-year-old girl to his house under the pretext of a modelling job and allegedly ended up touching her breasts and genitals, and kissing her.
“He allegedly tried to remove her panties without her consent and also took pictures of the victim while she was naked, under the pretext that she was doing a modelling job,” Erongo crime crime investigations coordinator, Deputy Commissioner Erastus Iikuyu, said.
Desmond Derrick Fick (61), who stands accused of attempted rape and indecent assault, was denied bail yesterday during his first appearance by Magistrate Paula Nelao Brown in the Swakopmund Magistrate’s Court.
This comes after the State, represented by prosecutor Cleopatra Boois, opposed bail.
“This is based on the seriousness of the offence that the accused person is charged with. Furthermore, it would not be in the interest of justice nor in the public interest to have the accused on bail.
“There is also a fear that the accused is aware of the residential addresses of key witnesses in the case. It is against this background that the State objects to bail,” Boois said.
The incident took place recently at a house in the Ocean suburb of Swakopmund.
Fick was represented by Ray Rukoro. The legal representative told the court the accused will formally apply for bail.
“We will make the arrangements to apply for bail,” Rukoro said.
The case has been postponed to 29 September to allow for further police investigations.
The accused has been remanded in custody at the Swakopmund police holdings cells.
