Girl (4) drowns at Swakop

A four-year-old girl drowned this past weekend in Swakopmund, while her mother also nearly lost her life during a rescue attempt.
Shanique Gases drowned on Saturday afternoon near the Platz Am Meer mall in Vineta.
She and her mother, brother and cousin had spent the day at the beach, before Gases was swept away by a strong wave.
The mother was rescued after jumping into the ocean to save her daughter. Gases' body was discovered later that night, about 500 metres from where she had drowned.
In a separate incident on Saturday at Okongo, a man whose age is not known, raped a six-year-old girl in the bushes at Oshomughudi village.
The suspect accosted the girl while she was with her friends close to his house. They children had been chasing donkeys.
The suspect is known, but has not been arrested.
In another incident on Friday at Utokota village in Kavango East, a 43-year-old woman was raped by a 33-year-old man.
The man entered the woman's traditional hut while she was sleeping, undressed her and raped her. The suspect has been arrested.
On Sunday at Onayena in Ondjumba village, the body of a baby girl was discovered at the edge of a water pond. It is believed that the body was dumped there. The remains were discovered by two minors who were playing near the pond. They informed an adult whose house is near the pond, who then alerted the police.
At Wanaheda on Saturday, a 16-year-old boy was stabbed to death with a knife by a 34-year-old man. Marcelo Gaingob was stabbed in the neck and died instantly during a quarrel with the suspect while drinking alcohol. The suspect is known, but has not been arrested.
On Sunday, a 28-year-old man was also stabbed to death with a knife by a 27-year-old man. The two men are related.
According to the police, Hivea Hevita was stabbed with a knife once in the neck and died instantly. The incident took place while they were consuming homebrewed liquor at a residence. The suspect has been arrested.
