The Government Institution Pension Fund (GIPF) has extended the suspension of its biometrics verification process due to the increase in Covid-19 cases.
Ignatius Manyando, the fund’s manager of annuities, made the announcement on Monday in a press release.
In 2021, GIPF announced the suspension of its fingerprint verification process, assuring the members that the hold-up would not affect payment of their benefits.
Manyando said Namibia has seen an alarming increase in Covid-19 cases, and as such, in the fund’s continued effort to protect its annuitants, particularly pensioners and GIPF staff, the suspension will remain effective.
“This suspension will not, in any case, affect monthly annuities for our beneficiaries, spousal and child annuitants,” he said.
Prudent
Manyando added that annuitants can maintain peace of mind knowing that the fund will continue to administer its benefits in the most prudent manner and can continue to expect that benefits will be paid timeously as usual.
He said in case of the death of a beneficiary, family members are encouraged to immediately contact their nearest GIPF office and establish if there is a funeral benefit payable.
“It is imperative that GIPF adheres to regulations put in place to curb the spread of Covid-19,” he stressed.
