Fruitful art conversations

The main purpose of the talk is for experts to air their views, objectives and different ways on how to combine the arts and grow the industry as a whole.

PK Administration will host the first-ever Art Talk tomorrow at NamPower Convention Centre.

On the panel are Kalistu Ramos, Adriano Visagie, DJ Chazz, Shikololo, Ndemufayo Kaxuxuena and Lioness.

PK Administration founder and host Popyeni Kaxuxwena said he was motivated to organise the event because he feels in Namibia the arts industry is not united and everyone is doing their own thing.

He added he feels like Namibia has not really come to terms with the fusion of different forms of arts.

“I used to host hip-hop talks but I have decided to not only focus on one genre of the arts and that is how Art Talk was conceived.

“If you look at the speakers, I looked at someone from theatre, hip-hop, a DJ, an event organiser and someone who is a brand specialist and can advise in terms of branding,” said Kaxuxwena.

The main purpose of the talk is for experts to air their views, objectives and different ways on how to combine the arts and grow the industry as a whole.

“If you look at East Africa and West Africa, for example, the arts industry is huge and people make a living from it.

“The reason they do that is because they are so organised, to such an extent that they get promoted and people come from different parts of the world and invest in their art. In Namibia, from an arts perspective, we do not have that yet.”

Kaxuxwena emphasised that the long-term goal of Art Talk is to expose Namibian talent to the rest of Africa, and also to grow the event to a point where he will be hosting SADC art talks for a week.

“We want people from the arts to be appreciated and well-organised, to the extent that investors won't hesitate to invest.

“It is very disheartening for me to see someone who is very talented, yet for some reason still comes to me and asks for taxi fare. It is not necessarily that they do not get booked; sometimes they do not take themselves seriously, hence that is why such talks are important,” said Kaxuxwena.

Kalistu Ramos, one of the speakers at the event told tjil that attendees can look forward to some straight talk and also advice on how to take control of your brand, while working with a team.

“It does not mean if you have a team working for you, you need to be relaxed. Control is key,” said Ramos. The event will start at 10:00 and N$50 gets you in.
