The Ongwediva town council has reiterated its call for residents, especially those residing at New Reception 3, to apply for sewer connections.
The location is home to 113 residents, but by the end of August, only 13 had applied.
Council spokesperson Jackson Muma said the town had resolved that residents will not pay sewer connection fees this year in an effort to promote hygiene and cleanliness amid the coronavirus pandemic.
The free services end in January 2021.
The application fee is usually N$2 165.
Muma said mayor Angelina Angula officially launched the project for the New Reception 3 community at the beginning of August, but it has since been extended to the entire town.
Every resident whose house is close to a sewer should visit the office to apply, he said.
“We want residents to visit the office and get connected. Manholes have been constructed, pipelines have been laid and the system is functional and ready to accommodate all erven owners in this area.
“We are encouraging them to come and make sure they apply and get connected before 2021,” Muma said.
