Retired National Assembly sergeant-at-arms, Heita Nestor Aipinge, allegedly committed suicide on Monday at Okathitu Kakahala village in Omusati’s Outapi constituency.
Omusati police community affairs spokesperson, Warrant Officer Anna Kunga, on Tuesday confirmed that the 66-year-old Aipinge shot himself with a 9mm Makarov pistol in the chest at his home.
He died on the spot.
Aipinge’s body was transported to the Outapi District Hospital before being taken to the Okahao police mortuary where a post-mortem will be carried out, Kunga said.
No suicide note
“It was not immediately known why Aipinge took his own life, as no suicide note was found at the scene,” Kunga added.
Police investigations are underway.
Aipinge was also the headman of his village.
Bow and arrow
Meanwhile, Kunga also confirmed that a 48-year-old man from Onalushwa village was arrested on Monday for allegedly shooting and seriously wounding his girlfriend with a bow and arrow at around 21:40.
“It is alleged that the suspect shot his girlfriend once in the abdomen with a bow and arrow and she sustained serious injuries in what is viewed as a domestic violence incident,” Kunga said.
The victim was transferred from the Tsandi District Hospital to the Oshakati Intermediate Hospital, where she was admitted in a critical but stable condition.
