Jong spelers beïndruk by Sanlam Junior Tennis-toernooi

Die Sanlam Junior Tennis-toernooi, aangebied deur die Namibiese Tennisvereniging (NTV), het die afgelope naweek weer aan jong spelers die geleentheid gebied om hul talente ten toon te stel.

Met ongeveer 95 inskrywings, 22 bane, vier venues en meer as 200 wedstryde was dit ‘n naweek waar tennis behoorlik geseëvier het.

Die voorsitter van die junior tenniskomitee van die NTV, me. Santie van der Walt, was beïndruk met die vordering wat in dié sport gemaak is.

“Dit is ongelooflik om te sien hoe die sport in net die afgelope twee weke alleen gegroei het. Met ander skoolsporte wat nie kon voortgaan nie, kon kinders spesifiek op tennis fokus, en die gehalte van die spel is ongelooflik,” sê Van der Walt.

Seuns en meisies vanaf o.10 tot o.18 kon deelneem, met ’n spesiale toernooi wat aangebied is vir spelers jonger as agt.

“Tennis is een van die gelukkige sportsoorte wat kon voortgaan in hierdie tyd, terwyl ander sportsoorte weens Covid-19-regulasies nie kon voortgaan nie. Ons is opgewonde vir die toekoms van die sport en spelers,” sê Van der Walt.

“Dit is so lekker om weer terug te wees en tennis te kan speel. Sport help ons om gesond te bly, wat veral belangrik is in hierdie tyd, so dit is so lekker om weer te kan speel en aan wedstryde te mag deelneem,” sê Johannes Swartz, een van die spelers wat die naweek deelgeneem het.

“Ons is ongelooflik dankbaar vir Sanlam se getroue bydrae die afgelope agt jaar. Junior tennis het so baie gegroei, en ten spyte van die moeilike tye wat die sport ervaar het in die verlede, het Sanlam getrou betrokke gebly en gehelp om aan die toekoms van die sport te bou,” het Van der Walt gesê.
