EDITORIAL: Establish Limkokwing facts once and for all
For too long, we have been dancing around allegations engulfing higher education minister Dr Itah Kandjii-Murangi and her implied unholy alliance to Limkokwing University, as if it’s rocket science to establish the actual facts.
Already in May, Namibia Student Financial Assistance Fund (NSFAF) officials approached Namibian Sun to bemoan undue pressure allegedly being piled on them by Kandjii-Murangi’s ministry to approve study loans for Limkokwing’s unaccredited study programmes.
Given Kandjii-Murangi’s assertion in Parliament recently that she had nothing to do with the loans issued so far, the board of directors, which she said is solely responsible for such decisions, must explain.
The NSFAF board must tell the nation which legal instruments it relied upon to issue study loans to Limkokwing students while the university’s study programmes remain unaccredited.
Kandjii-Murangi herself has a fiduciary duty to establish facts thereto, instead of simply distancing herself from the allegations.
She has no option of simply shrugging her shoulders and neatly folding her hands to hide behind the ‘no comment’ wall when legitimate questions are posed in this regard.
Transparency, which is the mantra of her appointing authority, President Hage Geingob, must prevail.
If truth cannot be established in a matter as straightforward as this, how can the nation retain confidence in government’s ability to protect it from even trickier scenarios of abuse of power and resources by powerful individuals?
