WINDHOEK
Namibian international Peter Shalulile opened the DStv Premiership clash at the FNB Stadium on Saturday afternoon in the heavyweight bout between his side Mamelodi Sundowns and Kaizer Chiefs.
Sundowns, the defending league champions, showed that they have every intention of continuing their dominance after recording a 3-0 win over Chiefs in a match which was one-sided.
Shalulile’s 37th minute goal was the opening goal for the season.
The hardworking forward’s WhatsApp status yesterday read: “As long as you pray, you can make it through anything”.
Khune punished
Shalulile’s goal came through an Itumaleng Khune blunder as he came off his line and flapped at a corner kick, which hit Shalulile’s shoulder and somewhat fortuitously looped into the net to give the Brazilians the lead.
The other two goals came from Kermit Erasmus as well as a late penalty from reigning player of the season, Themba Zwane.
To look forward to
Sundowns will host Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivhandila on Wednesday.
In other matches, AmaZulu and Deon Hotto’s Orlando Pirates played to a 1-1 draw.
Cape Town City and Riaan Hanamub’s Chippa United shared the spoils on the night with a one-all stalemate.
Ananias Gebhardt’s Baroka gave their supporters hope of a more enjoyable season after they opened their campaign with a 2-1 win over Maritzburg United.
Meanwhile, Bloemfontein Celtic and Edward Maova’s Golden Arrows opened their campaigns with a 1-1 draw at on Saturday afternoon as well.
