Covid-19: Calm urged at Karasburg

Karasburg East constituency councillor Dennis Coetzee has urged residents of Karasburg not to panic after the town recorded two positive Covid-19 cases last week.
A teacher at a local school and a worker at a quarantine facility tested positive for Covid-19 at the southern town. Coetzee made the call at the Ernst Jager Secondary School on Wednesday during a visit by the deputy minister of education, arts and culture, Faustina Caley, and the director-general of the National Planning Commission, Obeth Kandjoze. “Let us not panic, let us follow the health protocols and let us wait on the Health Ministry on the way forward,” said Coetzee.
He said if Karasburg is hit by the virus like in the case of Walvis Bay that has local transmission, Karasburg has no means to control the virus. “I am not at ease with the situation on the ground and we have to talk about it, especially our teachers and learners must be in a place of safety to limit the spread of the virus. Currently the teachers, learners and the community are stressed because of the news,” he said.
