Botswana defeat Namibia

The ICC World Twenty20 Africa C qualifier concluded on Saturday, with Botswana defeating Namibia in the final.
Namibia lost to Botswana by three wickets in their ICC World Twenty20 Africa C qualifier in Gaborone on Saturday, after an incredible performance by James Moses.

Moses proved that age is nothing but a number, as the 53-year-old produced runs, wickets and run-out to help seal a classic finish for the hosts, who defeated the favourites by three wickets in the final.

Both teams are already through to next year's Africa finals in Uganda, but Botswana and their very loud fans treated the occasion with the necessary attitude.

They were well up for it and completed an excellent week of hosting in fine style.

Namibia had dominated all-comers with the bat and ball, but this time they were stopped in their tracks.

They managed 116 for nine on Saturday, with the evergreen Lo-handre Louwrens notching up 36 runs upfront.

The young Nicol Loftie-Eaton went on to score 21, but Moses had by then already removed the dangerous Jan Frylinck and Michau du Preez.

The veteran then ran out the well-set Zane Green for 15, to further derail the Namibian fightback. Thatayaone Tshose took three for 33 to put the finishing touches to a fine team effort by Botswana in the field.

Chasing 117, Reginald Nehonde's sensible 30 off 36 balls was the glue needed to get the hosts close.

Moses, not content with his role with the ball, smashed two fours and a six to get them to the brink of a famous victory, as the crowd grew louder and louder with anticipation.

When the end, Moses was the man of the moment, making sure that the enduring face of Botswana cricket will not easily forgotten by Namibia.
