Blue Waters on Friday released a statement to explain the financial situation the club finds itself in.

In the statement, the club leadership explained that they were severely impacted by Covid-19, but that they managed to pay the players’ salaries.

“Blue Waters were not spared by the precarious financial environment brought upon by the pandemic. But despite the unfavourable conditions, as a club, we tried by all means to assist our players unconditionally to cushion them against the blow caused by the pandemic.

“Since the resumption of football last month, the club remained committed to its financial obligations and remunerated the players and technical team, including winning bonuses on 28 September. After all, safeguarding the livelihoods of our human resources remains paramount.

“We have and will continue ensuring that our players from the various sports codes: soccer, netball and cricket and the respective technical teams receive our unconditional support.

“The club’s executive committee is committed to ensure that the affairs of the club are in order and although sponsors are reluctant to come on board due to the uncertainty of football in the country, we will continue devising revenue generation initiatives to manage the club soundly,” read the statement.

In addition, the club thanked all stakeholders for their continued support and gave assurance that the ethos and values of the club will be upheld as they forge ahead.

“While it remains our hope that the situation improves and that the morale and focus of the team on the upcoming MTC Namibia Football Association Cup Aweh matches will not be negatively affected, we would like to congratulate all our players and the technical team for reaching the semi-finals of the cup competition, we wish you well going forward.

“To the fans, please continue supporting your team of choice unconditionally and let’s go in big numbers to Gobabis’s Legare Stadium with the slogan of ‘Up the Birds’,” concluded the statement.
