Beskerm dié sonder 'n stem

Die Namibiese film Baxu and the Giants inspireer skoolleerlinge om natuurbewaring te ondersteun.

Ongeveer 138 leerlinge het op 22 April aan die “Speak Up for Nature and Connect to Wildlife”-veldtog deelgeneem om hierdie jaar se Aarde-uur te vier.

Die doel van dié veldtog is om natuurbewaring onder die gemeenskappe in die landelike en stedelike gebiede van die land te bevorder.

Die plaaslik vervaardigde fliek Baxu and the Giants is aan die leerlinge gewys wat hulle opnuut geïnspireer het om wild te beskerm. Renosterbewaarders in die Khorixas-omgewing het die leerlinge toegespreek oor die uitdagings en geleenthede van hul beroep.

Die rol van wildbewaarders vir bewaring en beskerming van natuurlike hulpbronne, en die werk wat hierdie mans en vroue doen, is ook met die jongmense bespreek.

Die skole wat aan die veldtog deelgeneem het, was Laerskool Cimbebasia, Gekombineerde Skool Masida, Hoërskool Goreseb, Hoërskool Welwitschia, Holden Gekombineerde Skool Ulenga en Laerskool Onamtanga.

Leerlinge het hul skole as deel van die veldtog skoongemaak en herwinbare materiaal is in kuns omskep.

Die skeppings is by die onderskeie skole uitgestal. Baie van dié skeppings kon weer vir alledaag­se gebruik aangewend word.

Die leerlinge het belowe om die natuur te bewaar en om aandag daarop te vestig wanneer ongeregtigheid plaasvind.

“Ons sal opstaan en praat vir dié wat nie vir hulself kan praat nie,” het die leerlinge gesê.

Die Amerikaanse Agentskap vir Internasionale Ontwikkeling (USAID), die Wêreld-Natuurfonds (WWF), die Geïntegreerde Landelike Ontwikkeling en Natuurbewaring (IRDNC), die Namibië Natuurstigting (NNF) en die Namibië Ontwikkelingstrust (NDT) het die verrigtinge gereël.

“Ons verhouding met die natuur ervaar tans 'n geweldige wanbalans. Die jaar 2020 het bewys die natuur is noodsaaklik vir ons voortbestaan,” het mnr. Siphiwe Lutibezi, die kommunikasiebeampte van die Namibiese WWF gesê.
