AMI Awards Afrika postponed
The new multi-cultural awards show, which postponed from last weekend, will take this weekend, in Kampala Uganda.
Last week Saturday was supposed to be big for local artists ML, Kalux, Sally, Young T and Tate Buti as they were nominated to take part in the inaugural African Music Industry (AMI) Awards Afrika but the event was postponed.
“It is our interest that all our nominees receive the marquis treatment that they deserve as we aim to make your experience with us count as you come together in your numbers from all corners of the world.
We are doing our utmost in this regard. We hereby inform you that AMI Awards organising committee has opted to postpone the prestigious award ceremony from 24 March to 31 March,” read awards founder Esaie Schnaps wrote on his social media pages.
Namibian artists confirmed that they have been notified via email about the rescheduling and they will wait for further instructions.
“We received notification about the postponement and I think it's okay as they are new.
They may still be trying to get everything in order to make it an unforgettable night,” said Ml who was nominated for Best Female Newcomer Southern Africa for her song O'radio featuring Neslow.
ML, who is due to perform at the event, is hopeful that the awards will happen as the organisers recently hosted a fashion show which should be an indication that the organisers can stick to their words. ML said she personally confirmed that the hotel booking has been made for this coming Saturday for the awards.
The organisers have also contacted her for her passport as they are paying for her flight and accommodation to attend as a performing artist.
“They said they will send our flight tickets this week. I guess the time frame for them to prepare everything was not enough,” she said.
Many artists from all over Africa on social media expressed their frustration at the short notice about the postponement saying that they were already in Kampala and will have to make further bookings for the coming weekend.
The AMI Awards are multi-cultural awards with the sole purpose of honouring African artists and musicians, arts and culture, entertainment, humanitarian acts, entertainment leaders, entrepreneurs and the creative spirit of ordinary people who have captured audiences for generations and challenged our understanding through their arts and works.
