Ambunda enters the lion's den
Paulus 'El Jesus' Ambunda left for Singapore on Sunday, ahead of his clash against unbeaten Singaporean, Muhamad 'The Chosen Wan' Ridhwan, for the vacant IBO world super bantamweight title on Saturday at the Marina Bay Sands luxury hotel.
The 34-year old Ambunda is trained by Imms 'AC' Moses and Nicky Natangwe, and has sparring with the likes of Sakaria Lucas and Nathaniel Kakololo ahead of the world title fight.
Moses, who spoke from Singapore yesterday, said his preparations are done and dusted and they are looking forward to the weekend.
Ambunda said in a recent interview that it will not be an easy fight. “Ridhwan is young and hungry, but I have been there before. It is my belt and I will take it. I will not undermine him but he has never felt my power.”
Ambunda added he has a secret punch waiting for his opponent.
“I will not reveal it, but he will not see it coming. His total fights are equal to my knockouts,” he said. The 30-year-old Ridhwan said during the same interview that he has studied the Namibian's moves and there is nothing special about him.
“There is nothing I haven't seen before. It's pretty straightforward. On fight night he will be stepping into the lion's den. If I hit him clean, he won't get up again. I just have to decide when to stop him,” Ridhwan said. The Singaporean recently posted on his Facebook page that this could possibly be his toughest fight.
“This is for the IBO world title, a step to proving to myself and the world that I deserve to be where I'm at now, and that I'm more ready for bigger names and bigger fights.”
Ambunda is the current WBC international silver champion, former WBO as well as a two-time IBO world champion.
He has record of 26 wins, 11 knockouts and two defeats.
His opponent is the current IBO intercontinental champion, IBO international champion, as well as the UBO world champion. He has 11 wins, with knockouts to his name and is undefeated.
