Ama-Daz-Floor has talent in buckets

Artist: Ama-Daz-Floor Album Title: Mwakala Nale **** I looked at this album and while the beautiful cover made a good first impression, I was sceptical about my ability to give it a fair review, because the majority of the songs are in Oshiwambo, which I don’t understand. But after a quick listen, I realised music is a universal language. The greatest of art transcends and touches the soul, regardless of the language used. Although lyrics contribute to a particular song, things such as instrumentals and vocal abilities contribute equally. The album starts with Passion Killing and the first thought that comes to mind is that these boys are really talented. There have been many passion killing songs and some are extremely cheesy, while others have bored one to death. However, this one on the other hand is easy to sing along to and dance to. It has the ability to be a shebeen hit, and I can imagine young people dancing to it. Another good song is Money Maker. It has that Tate Buti vibe. Like most of the other songs, it has a Soukous or Kwasa kind of sound and you can’t help but dance to it. It’s great to see young people make music for the people, as opposed to copying mainstream sounds. While some might disagree, I think most people - including myself - every now and then just want to hear music that makes you want to dance barefoot. Music has become so cosmopolitan, and Ama-Daz-Floor takes you back to when it was simple and loveable. Shanika Hot is another highlight on the album as the group is joined by the man who made this kind of music popular, Tate Buti. They are a winning combination and the song leaves you yearning to be at one of those Damara Lokasie parties. The instrumentals on Why Why are extremely unique. It has that Jamaican kind of sound that makes you imagine that you’re on some island dancing while sipping on a cocktail. We Take It Over and Meme are also good songs. This album will probably not sell like hotcakes; neither do I expect to hear their songs in Windhoek’s upmarket nightclubs. Still, there is no doubt that Ama-Daz-Floor is a group of talented boys, who make the music that our bodies and souls desire.
