Alleged Stampriet child rapist denied bail

30 January 2020 | Justice

A 34-year-old man arrested at Stampriet for allegedly raping a six-year-old girl in her home in the early hours of Saturday made his first appearance at the Aranos Magistrate's Court on Tuesday.

Gert Charles Nero appeared before Magistrate Yvonne McLeod on a charge of rape read with the Combating of Rape Act and was denied bail.

The matter was postponed to 24 February to allow the accused to apply for legal aid.

The incident allegedly occurred in the Rykmansdorp residential area between midnight and 01:50 on Saturday.

It is alleged that the victim and her two brothers were left at home by their mother on Friday night.

While they were asleep, the suspect entered the house and allegedly raped the victim, who was sleeping on the bed.

Her two brothers were sleeping on the floor on a mattress.

The boys woke up when they heard their sister crying and reportedly spotted the suspect as he was leaving. He is detained at the Stampriet police holding cells.

Police investigations continue.

Meanwhile, a 21-year-old man was arrested on Sunday for the alleged rape of a 16-year-old girl at Maltahöhe in the Hardap Region.

Hardap police acting crime investigations coordinator Detective Chief Inspector Simon Hauwanga told Nampa on Tuesday that the incident happened on Sunday between 22:00 and midnight at the Maltahöhe soccer field. “It is alleged that the suspect had sexual intercourse with the victim on the soccer field after pulling her to the other side of the soccer field,” Hauwanga said.

The suspect was arrested and is detained at the Maltahöhe police holding cells.
