Monique Taylor was born in Gobabis and raised in Swakopmund and completed her last two years of high school at Windhoek Gymnasium. She was bred to have a career in tourism just like almost everyone else in her family. “I have a strong seven-year experience in tourism and spent about two of those years working on different projects in the film industry. It took a pandemic to stop me and change my career path,” she says.
Interesting facts about Monique Taylor:
She did karate for 15 years and was fortunate enough to participate in three world championships, from which she brought home three medals, the first at the age of 11.
In grade 9, she started a school volunteer project called ‘Ubuntu – Public Spirit’. Ubuntu means “I am because we are”. Till today the project is still running
As a part-time hobby that pays, she fires spins as well as does LED flow performances at corporate and private events.
Taylor is a sales executive for four radio stations - Radiowave, Fresh FM, Omulunga Radio & Nova 103.5 -at Future Media.
She was appointed on 7 January 2021 and her duties consist of sales meetings, proposals and administration related to the sales department.
Taylor says there is a fun, friendly and creative working environment at Future Media. “It is important to have a job environment you would like to go to, feel comfortable enough to ask any questions, and have full support from all the departments. The open-door policy at Future Media is simply amazing,” she says.
She says it has been an enormous growing experience in sales, client communication and product information.
Taylor adds that one of her accomplishments was a 12% increase in newly signed contracts within the first three months. One of the challenges is relationship building with current clients who may not have had the best experience before; however that too has turned positive after allowing clients to vent.
The most challenging aspect of the job at first was damage control. The clients now have a better understanding of the advertising packages they signed up for, she says.
When asked what success looks like in this position and how she measures it, Taylor says her success is measured by whether she meets the monthly sales targets.
“Unfortunately, I have been unable to reach the target, but I aim to reach it soonest and calculate my weekly and monthly percentage increase,” she says.
Taylor hopes to remain at Future Media to build a stronger client base, increase her sales and reach the targets set for her.
