African Volleyball’s Cassam to visit Namibia
A delegate of the Confederation of African Volleyball (CAVB), Khalid Cassam, will arrive in Namibia on November 9 to assess the progress made on the African Dream Project here.
The African Dream Project is a four-year programme financed by the CAVB to identify volleyball talent in Africa, including Namibia.
The Namibian programme was launched in Oshakati early this year.
A senior officer of the Namibia Volleyball Federation (NVF), Hillary Dux Imbuwa, told Nampa last Wednesday that volleyball development centres for the programme were opened at Katima Mulilo, Rundu, Oshakati and Windhoek.
Imbuwa said Cassam, who is from Mozambique, will visit the four centres in order to inspect the progress made in Namibia’s African Dream Project since its launch some six months ago.
He will be in Windhoek on November 10; Katima Mulilo on November 11; Rundu on November 12 and Oshakati on November 13.
Imbuwa, who is both the national project and NVF development director, will accompany Cassam during his visit to all volleyball development centres.
“The regional education directors, town mayors, regional governors, school principals, parents, teachers and participating learners have all been invited by regional volleyball associations to be present at the event,” she said.
The project helps to develop volleyball among children aged between seven and 14 years.
It involves around 200 children who are trained by qualified coaches at the four centres three to four times per week.
This project won the Development Programme of the Year Award with N$100 000 prize money at the national sport awards on October 23.
