Adrian wins bronze at African Games
Cyclist Vera Adrian won the country's fifth medal at the African Games on Monday in the women's individual time trial (ITT) final that was held in the town of Benslimane in Morocco.
Adrian, who is the only female representing Team Namibia in cycling at the games, clocked a time of 48 minutes and 34 seconds (48:34).
The 14-kilometre route had two loops, making it a 28km time trial.
The Namibian paced herself on the flat route of Benslimane to beat strong competitors from Eritrea, Ethiopia and Algeria.
The women's ITT was won by Ashleigh Pasio of South Africa in a time of 38:16. She was followed home by her teammate Zanri Rossouw in a time of 40:12.
Adrian's medal is the fifth for Namibia in cycling at the games, and the fifth overall, as no other sport code has won a medal for the country at the championships thus far.
Tristan de Lange won two gold medals for Team Namibia during the men's mountain bike and mountain bike marathon events at the VTT Sports Centre in Benslimane, while his teammate Alex Miller won silver and bronze medals, respectively, in the same events.
Team Namibia's cyclists will compete in the road race for women, to be held tomorrow, and the road race for men on Thursday, in Benslimane.
