11 rapes reported over weekend

Eleven rapes were reported over the past weekend.

Four of the cases occurred at Rundu, while five involved minors.

On Friday at Ondangwa, a 25-year-old woman was raped by an acquaintance. According to the police, the incident occurred at Oluno when the suspect pulled her into his room and raped her. No arrest has been made.

In another incident on Saturday, a 24-year-old woman was raped by a 37-year-old man at Rundu, in the area of the Agro-Marketing and Trade Agency (Amta).

It is alleged that the suspect raped her in a taxi. The man was arrested.

In a separate incident on Saturday, also at Rundu, a 35-year-old woman was raped at Kehemu. The suspect has not been arrested.

Also on Saturday at Rundu, a 17-year-old girl was raped in the Safari location. The suspect has not been arrested.

On Sunday, a 14-year-old girl was raped at Rundu in the Ndama location by a 39-year-old man. The man has been arrested.

In another incident at Omulunga in the Saamstaan location, a 56-year-old man raped his 26-year-old neighbour on Saturday. The suspect has been arrested.

At Mariental on Saturday, a 23-year-old woman was raped by a 43-year-old man. The suspect threatened the woman with a knife. He has been arrested.

In another incident on Saturday at Wanaheda, a 21-year-old woman was raped. According to the police, the suspect grabbed the woman from a local bar, threw her on the ground and raped her. The suspect has been arrested.

On Sunday at Okongo at Oshushu village, three minor girls were sexually assaulted by a cattle herder. The suspect has been detained for questioning.

In other incidents over the weekend a 41-year-old man was arrested on Saturday at Maltahöhe after he allegedly assaulted a 39-year-old woman who is wheelchair-bound. The two are apparently in a relationship.

According to the police the man beat the woman several times with his fists on her body and later took a brick and threatened to kill her.

In another incident on Saturday at Dordabis a 42-year-old woman was stabbed by her 39-year-old boyfriend. According to the police she was stabbed with a knife in the chest and rushed by ambulance to the Katutura State Hospital in a critical condition. The suspect has been arrested.
