Graft: Hanse-Himarwa to appear in court
Education minister Katrina Hanse-Himarwa has been charged with corruption and will appear in the Mariental Magistrate’s Court next week. In a media statement issued today, Hanse-Himarwa admitted that she was summoned to appear in court on charges of corruption. She allegedly used her office for gratification. “These charges stem from my duties as governor of the Hardap Region, which portfolio I was appointed to by former President Hifikepunye Pohamba from 2005-15,” she said. Hanse-Himarwa defended her tenure as Hardap governor, saying programmes such as the Mass Housing project implemented during her reign, yielded tangible results. “It is thus painful that actions taken within the scope of responsibility and duties as a governor have resulted in the case being pursued against me. I state categorically that I neither abused by powers nor was I motivated by a desire for my direct and or indirect benefit.”
