Namibia Wildlife Resorts' (NWR) /Ai-/Ais Hot Springs and Spa has been closed due to extensive rain damage.
According to NWR spokesperson Mufaro Nesongano, heavy rains and flash floods were experienced at the resort on 5 January. He said these flash floods resulted in the rivers along the facility overflowing, causing extensive damage to the resort and campsites.
/Ai-/Ais Hot Springs and Spa acting resort manager, Robert Hailume, said the rain was quite heavy and caused extensive damage.
“Though the resort experienced severe damage, I am grateful that all our clients who were camping that evening were successfully evacuated and are safe.”
Nesongano said in light of the damage to the resort and campsites, NWR had no option but to temporarily close the resort to visitors for the next three months - from 11 January until the end of March.
“We will soon commence with the repair work. This will ensure that the resort can begin to operate as soon as possible,” NWR managing director Matthias Ngwangwama added.
