Renate America’s story in tourism

Driven by passion, guided by purpose
Francouis Pretorius
Renate America is a name that embodies dedication, versatility and a deep love for Namibia’s wild beauty. Though she only recently joined Cullinan Namibia, America brings with her years of experience, a trail of leadership roles and a rich history in the tourism and hospitality sector.

Her journey began as a communications officer in the early days of Namibian tourism, where limited infrastructure meant she had to manage lodge-to-head-office communication via radio. It was in those remote, challenging settings that she developed the quick thinking and strong relationship-building skills that would shape the rest of her career.

From there, America’s career evolved steadily and impressively. She transitioned into consulting, first as a junior consultant, then as a senior consultant, honing her strategic approach and people management. This naturally led her into hospitality, where she served as an operations manager and later as a hotel manager, overseeing large teams and complex operations with a hands-on understanding of both service and systems.

Welcome to Namibia

What drives America most is the opportunity to share Namibia with the world. From Sossusvlei’s towering dunes to the raw mystery of the Skeleton Coast, she sees tourism not just as a business but as a platform for conservation and cultural pride. “Tourism creates awareness and empowers local communities. It’s fulfilling to be part of that movement," she said.

America has also witnessed the shift technology has brought to the tourism industry. From smartphones to social media, she notes that travellers are now more independent and inspired by visual storytelling, seeking hidden gems and eco-conscious adventures. This aligns perfectly with Cullinan Namibia’s approach: crafting tailor-made luxury experiences that go beyond the typical.

Working with Cullinan Namibia has opened new doors for her, offering mentorship and opportunities to collaborate with industry leaders.

Despite the fast pace and constant change, she thrives on the challenge of delivering seamless, personalised itineraries. Whether navigating a last-minute booking surge or creating unforgettable moments for clients, America is guided by passion and purpose.

“Every journey we design is more than just a trip,” she says. “It’s a memory, a story, and a chance to showcase Namibia’s true magic.” Her advice to newcomers? “The industry is full of exciting possibilities, embrace the journey.”
