When Christiana Angermund first envisioned her career, sales and advertising was never part of the plan. In fact, she wanted to become a pharmacist.

However, fate had other plans. After completing Grade 12, the pharmacy course was not yet available at the University of Namibia, prompting Angermund to pursue a part-time qualification in Travel and Tourism instead.

While studying, she began working temporarily in the classifieds department at what was then Democratic Media Holdings, today Network Media Hub, a position that required someone who was trilingual. What started as a three-month temporary job quickly turned into a long-term career when she was offered a permanent position.

About a year later, a new opportunity arose when the company needed someone to handle page planning - a critical role previously managed by a retiring staff member. Angermund stepped up to the challenge, becoming responsible for page layout and working closely with advertising agencies, both local and in South Africa. When the company relocated from Gutenbergplatz to its current offices in Eros in 2000, the need for more hands in page layout became clear, and Angermund played a pivotal role in supporting this transition.

Today, her daily routine remains as dynamic as ever under the Synergi brand. “My portfolio mostly consists of retail clients, and they need to advertise their promotions almost every other day,” Angermund explains. “It’s a hectic schedule because I have to increase revenue for this sector by selling across all applicable editions and platforms - print, digital and TV.” From ensuring client artwork meets specifications to attending internal and client meetings, the role demands exceptional organisation and attention to detail.

Some of her most memorable moments come from handling major projects linked to significant events like Back to School, Easter and Black Friday. Yet two projects stand out above all: the special print edition published upon the passing of Nelson Mandela and the NTV broadcasts covering president Hage Geingob’s funeral. “Those moments taught me that anything is possible if you pay attention to detail and execution. The scale of the work can’t intimidate you when you stay focused,” she reflects.

To aspiring professionals hoping to build a lasting career, she offers this advice: “It’s not for everyone, because the portfolio can be demanding. But if you stay committed and keep learning, you’ll grow within the role. The experience you gain is priceless, and the satisfaction of seeing clients succeed makes it all worthwhile. Remember, Rome wasn’t built in a day; any good career takes time, effort and dedication.”

After nearly three decades of service, Angermund continues to exemplify what it means to grow, adapt and remain passionate in a fast-paced industry. Her story is one of perseverance, professionalism and pride - a true testament to a career built through hard work and heart.
