OK Foods Outjo opened its doors on 24 August 2000 to supply groceries and fresh produce to the people of Outjo and the greater Kunene Region.

OK Liquor opened in 2017.

OK Foods Outjo is a family-owned business, founded in 1995 as a Sentra store just up the road from where it is currently situated.

It was founded by Daan Holtzhausen, who remains a shareholder and director of the business.

In 2000, a new complex was built in Outjo and the business moved to its current location as OK Foods Outjo. In 2013, it underwent an upgrade and renovations, as part of the overall upgrading of the shopping complex.

The grocery store is a one-stop shop with a fast food department, a bakery, and a butchery.

It supplies a wide variety of fruits and vegetables, frozen foods, groceries, beverages and non-food items such as cleaning products, toiletries and household appliances and equipment.

"We supply a wide variety for everyone’s needs. We also have a money market to buy electricity, etc., and cash drawing facilities for our customers," said Mariette Holtzhausen, OK Foods' manager.

At the heart of the community

The shop is conveniently situated on the main road of Outjo on the corner of Sam Nuyoma Avenue and President Road, en route to the Etosha National Park.

The store employs 82 people.

"We value our employees as our best asset. Many of them have been with the family for 20-plus years. Our employees are knowledgeable and well-known among customers and form part of the whole shopping experience for our customers," Holtzhausen said.

The OK Foods family is looking forward to celebrating its 22nd birthday this month.

They will offer a variety of great promotions and specials during that month.

They are also planning another upgrade in the future to provide an even better service and to stay in sync with new developments in the area.

"The past eight years were not easy. This region had a drought lasting from 2013 to 2019 and then was struck by the Covid-19 pandemic in 2020,"said Holtzhausen.

These challenges affected business tremendously since the region relies mostly on agriculture and tourism, both of which were highly affected.

"We came through by the grace of God and because of our loyal customers and the community of Outjo who supported OK Foods Outjo through these difficult times," Holtzhausen said.

What sets OK Foods Outjo apart from other businesses is their involvement in the community of Outjo. OK Foods Outjo forms an integral part of the Outjo community.

The shop supports the local farmers and local suppliers as far as possible, and they employ mostly people from Outjo and the Kunene Region. Furthermore, they support their local schools, sports teams and many charity groups.
