Aiming to empower Namibia's youth
The Old Mutual Foundation (OMF) Indaba will host discussions on solutions, skill development, and networking opportunities to combat youth unemployment.
The Old Mutual Foundation (OMF) Indaba was officially launched to empower Namibian youth and combat youth unemployment.
Under the theme 'Spilling the Tea on Youth Unemployment', OMF will hold the first indaba on 25 October in Windhoek.
To ensure that youth from across the country can benefit from the discussions, the event will be broadcast live.
Corporate segment managing director at Old Mutual Namibia, Patricia Olivier, explained that the one-day event will nurture the potential of Namibian youth and create a beacon of hope and a catalyst for change.
Social responsibility consultant at Old Mutual Namibia, Mavis Elias, says the indaba will unpack the realities of being unemployed and the difficulties faced by unemployment. "We have to speak about the problems as opposed to witnessing them, provide solutions and skill development, and allow opportunities to network," she said.
Actionable solutions
During this, the first OMF Indaba, the organisation intends to cater to all youth in Namibia. Focusing on various topics of discussion, money matters, career progression, and entrepreneurship progression will be topics to be discussed.
Through the indaba, the OMF aims to provide practical and actionable financial solutions, career progression strategies, and entrepreneurship opportunities, which will be showcased during interactive training sessions.
Old Mutual Namibia group marketing, public affairs and sustainability executive Mignon du Preez says the 2023 OMF Indaba is not just an event but a commitment to the future of Namibia's youth. She said the aim of the indaba is to facilitate meaningful dialogue, raise awareness about the complexities of youth unemployment, and provide practical solutions.
"The indaba will increase awareness among young professionals about the root causes and consequences of youth unemployment, inspiring them to take proactive steps towards personal and professional growth," Du Preez explains.
