The man who wouldn’t be ‘bulldozed’
Market Watch would like to express its sincerest condolences with the entire Namibia on the loss of Pres Hage Geingob, who passed away yesterday morning at around 00:04.
As an economics reporter, one of my fondest memories of the late President is when he was still the trade and industry minister, spearheading the very tough economic partnership agreement (EPA) with the European Union (EU). Geingob was absolutely resolute in his determination to clinch the best possible deal for Namibia.
At a press conference in 2009, Geingob made international news when he scolded the EU for its one-sided approached to the EPA.
“We might be small, but we’re still a sovereign state. You cannot smoke cigars in boardrooms in Brussels and bulldoze us,” Geingob said.
The late President's fighting spirit will always be remembered.
