Market Watch: THE BIG IDEA

At Salt Essential IT, ZOLT is the vision of an intelligent cognitive assistant that can interact with customers, employees and stakeholders. Combined with HoloFan technology, it moves beyond a traditional chatbot to become a visible, interactive digital presence that appears to exist in the physical world.ZOLT is an AI-driven automation and knowledge management initiative at Salt. It is designed to answer repetitive questions, improve access to information and support customer-centric operations across Namibia and beyond. Think of it as a digital assistant, a knowledge-base interface,a support companion, a training platform and a service representative. The aim is not to replace human expertise but to add a first layer of intelligent assistance that improves efficiency and keeps answers consistent. The HoloFan EffectA HoloFan is a display whose rapidly rotating LED blades create the illusion of three-dimensional objects floating in mid-air. It is not a true volumetric hologram, but it is striking and highly effective at attracting attention. Modern units show 3D products, people, animations, avatars and real-time content, with cloud content management and AI avatar integration. Systems range from small desktop units to synchronised holographic walls. Retail, trade shows, education, museums and hospitality already use them.Pair one with ZOLT and the result is a digital human. Instead of approaching a kiosk, you meet a life-sized representative who says: "Good morning, ZOLT. How may I assist you today?" Powered by generative AI and organisational knowledge, it answers questions, guides processes and personalises help. The result is far more natural than searching a website, reading a brochure or waiting for an available employee.Front DeskZOLT's first jobs are on the front line. In customer service it can answer the same questions, from password resets to opening hours, with fast, steady replies day and night, so support workloads fall.Benefits include faster response times. As a receptionist it can sign in visitors, point the way to meeting rooms and help students register. Hotels could add check-in and local tips, and corporate offices security information and staff location guidance. In Namibia's public sector, ministryreceptions, municipal centres, healthcare facilities, universities and TVET colleges could give citizens quick answers in plain language, help with forms and shorter queues.Training is another strength. Slides, documents and videos give way to a holographic instructor who can show phishing attacks, social engineering and password management, explain generative AI and Microsoft Copilot, or act out safety procedures in realistic visual form.Beyond the Screen Product demonstrations may be the strongest use. Servers, machinery, vehicles or medical devices can float in the air and be examined from every angle, ideal when products are large, costly or hard to transport. At exhibitions, a holographic ZOLT can turn attendees into participants. Specialist versions, such as ZOLT Security, ZOLT Finance, ZOLT HR or ZOLT Citizen, could carry domain knowledge. Healthcare could use it to explain procedures and medication schedules, and to inform patients before they meet professionals. Tourism could gain virtual historical figures, museum guides, cultural storytelling and wildlife education.Success depends on verified content, responsible AI, accessible alternatives and a sound knowledge base. HoloFans are becoming more affordable, but each deployment must show measurable value. Get that right and ZOLT becomes a digital colleague, educator and brand ambassador: ambient intelligence, where information is visible and present.
