Kenya-Namibia forum targets deals

A week-long Kenyan trade and tourism mission to Namibia has identified opportunities for closer cooperation in trade, investment, tourism, ICT, energy, mining and logistics.

The mission, held from 6 to 12 September, brought together Kenyan businesses, government agencies and Namibian institutions as part of efforts to strengthen economic ties between the two countries.

Organised by the Namibia-Kenya Chamber of Commerce (NKCC), in partnership with the Namibia Investment Promotion and Development Board (NIPDB) and Namibia’s honorary consul in Kenya, the mission included meetings with government ministries, agencies and private-sector organisations.

Delegates discussed market access, investment and technical cooperation, with a focus on ICT and digital transformation, energy, mining, wildlife, tourism, industry and logistics.

Business forum

A key event was the Kenya-Namibia Business Forum and Roundtable hosted by NIPDB in Windhoek, bringing together government representatives, businesses, investors and institutions from both countries.

NKCC president and mission organiser Elvis Mboya said the objective was to move beyond discussions and identify practical commercial opportunities.

“We wanted to identify gaps, understand where the opportunities are and establish practical institutional and commercial partnerships that can continue after the Mission,” he said.

The delegation also met officials at the Kenya High Commission in Windhoek at the start of the mission.

Mboya said the mission had established business connections that would now need to be developed into partnerships, trade and investment.
