Joy as stolen cars returned to rightful owners

Angolan authorities returned four vehicles stolen in Namibia and smuggled into their country between January and July to their rightful owners at the Oshikango border post on Monday morning.Three of the vehicles were traced to the Oshana Region and one to the Ohangwena Region.Kleopas Hamutenya (64), a resident of Omusheshe in Ongwediva, was among those who beamed with joy as his car was handed back to him.Hamutenya thanked the Namibian and Angolan police for working together to ensure smooth cooperation between the neighbouring countries.Traumatic robberyHis car was stolen on 10 July during a traumatic robbery at his house, and he said he has been desperately searching for it ever since.He said the robbers arrived while he and his family were asleep, woke them, and tied them up."We, as pensioners, really worked hard for what we own. It's painful to be robbed of the things you worked for with all the strength you had as a youthful person, and people who should be looking after us are now robbing us,” Hamutenya said.Hamutenya urged the Namibian and Angolan governments and the men and women in uniform to continue collaborating in their fight against crime.Youth should do betterHis son, Justus Hamutenya, who accompanied his father to pick up the recovered car, urged young Namibians to ask for help if needed instead of resorting to robbery and theft.“People worked hard to come up with their things. The youth don’t want to work. They are just complaining that the government is not doing anything, but they stay at home sleeping,” he said.He also urged young Namibians to think of ways to create their own employment opportunities instead of relying on the government to provide jobs.Ester Haikonda also received her vehicle back. Although she was grateful that the car was found, she was disappointed that it was not in the same condition as when it was stolen.
