On Saturday, 30 August, the National Theatre of Namibia stage will host one of the country’s most celebrated voices, as award-winning Afro-jazz and traditional artist Erna Chimu presents ‘Live in Song’, a concert she describes as both a milestone and a personal tribute.

“This concert is the culmination of years of hard work, dedication and my deep passion for live music,” Chimu said in an interview ahead of the performance. “It’s a moment to pause, appreciate the journey, and look forward to the future.”

She revealed that the evening will also carry a poignant note, as it is dedicated to her late mother on the anniversary of her passing, 30 August.

“It’s about honouring her, celebrating music, and sharing unforgettable moments with my fans,” she said.

Audiences can expect a rich sensory experience.

Unforgettable, dynamic night

Chimu has promised dynamic stage production, captivating visuals and the kind of high-energy performance for which she has long been known.

“I want people to leave feeling inspired, energised, loved and eager for more,” she said.

The line-up will see Chimu joined by her long-time bandmates: Sam Batola on guitar and vocals, Gerson Doeseb on keyboards, Manneckey Khoe-Aob on percussion, Piu Fernando on drums, Jean Pierre Ntsika on bass, and Fofa Emilio on backing vocals.

Also sharing the stage will be Sagarias Tsam, whose guitar work and vocals bring “depth and rootedness”, and R&B singer Waters, whose creative flair adds “signature touches” to any set.

“It’s a true National Theatre project, where everyone is a performer,” Chimu noted. “Each of us brings our own energy and skill and together, we create something unforgettable.”

Known for her seamless blending of traditional Namibian sounds with jazz and soul, Chimu said the performance will lean into her heritage while maintaining her signature style.

“I’ll be incorporating local instruments, rhythms and melodies while keeping the soulful and jazzy vibes my music is known for,” she explained.

“The live setting will allow for a deeper connection with the audience, sharing not just music but stories and emotions.”

For first-time attendees, Chimu hopes the night will be transformative. “I want people to walk away feeling uplifted and connected to the music. I hope they’ll leave with a new appreciation for my artistry and maybe become lifelong fans.”

‘Live in Song’ is set to begin at 19:00 at the National Theatre of Namibia. Tickets are available via webtickets.com.na and at all Model stores nationwide.
