The late football administrator Charles Kauraisa has been described as an individual who always believed in elevating ideas to greater heights.
The former Namibia Football Association president passed away on Sunday after battling with illness.
The Namibia Football Association executive council and staff were saddened by the news.
“On behalf of the executive council, management and staff of the Namibia Football Association (NFA) and the entire Namibian football fraternity, the NFA would like to extend our deepest condolences and sympathy on the passing of a true icon of our sport, Mr. Charles Kauraisa.
“We are deeply saddened to learn of his passing on 3 August 2025. Our hearts, thoughts, and prayers are with his family, friends, and all who were touched by his wisdom, humility, and dedication to football,” an NFA statement reads.
The NFA described Kauraisa as a transformational and visionary leader whose life was dedicated to the growth and integrity of Namibian football.
His contribution to the sport is said to be immeasurable etched into every level of the game, from grassroots development to the international arena.
“He was not only a pioneer, but also a tireless advocate for progress, unity, and professionalism in our beloved sport.”
Following Namibia's independence, his leadership came during a pivotal era, serving as the second president of the NFA and the first to be democratically elected – a milestone that symbolized the dawn of a new era.
His tenure was marked by a landmark achievement when, in July 1992, he led Namibia to full membership of FIFA during the FIFA Congress – an event that unlocked global recognition and participation.
Kauraisa also served as chairperson of Blue Waters Sports Club and the then Namibia National Soccer League (NNSL), where he played a critical role in transforming the sport from the constraints of the apartheid era into a unified and inclusive national movement.
Later, he became chairperson of the Namibia Premier League (NPL), the successor to the NNSL, continuing his unwavering service to the game.
As a founding member of African Stars Football Club, Kauraisa has also been recognised by the club’s current hierarchy, who described him as “a founding pillar of African Stars Football Club and a visionary who helped lay the foundation of our proud legacy.
“Your wisdom, leadership and dedication will forever live in the heart of our club,” the club wrote.
