Pair caught travelling on fake passports from Namibia
Two Iraqi men who travelled to Germany from Namibia this week were caught at Munich Airport carrying forged diplomatic passports.
According to German broadcaster Bayerischer Rundfunk (BR), the two men presented Greek diplomatic passports that were “professionally forged” after arriving on a flight from Windhoek.
The two 28-year-olds intended to enter Germany before travelling on to Greece, claiming to be Greek diplomats.
Officers noticed irregularities in the documents on Tuesday. Federal Police specialists examined the passports and confirmed they were forged, BR reported.
The men were questioned and admitted to being Iraqi nationals, according to the Federal Police. Both have since applied for asylum.
Until a decision is made on their applications, the two men must remain in the airport’s transit facility, BR reported.
