Khwe heritage takes centre stage in lecture series
How can the Khwe's linguistic and cultural heritage be preserved for future generations? Cultural researcher Dr Gertrud Boden of Goethe University Frankfurt will explore this question during a series of public lectures in Namibia. At the heart of the project is the Oswin Köhler Archive, home to the world's largest collection of documents on Khwe language and culture. Over the past decade, records compiled between 1959 and 1992 have been revisited and adapted in close collaboration with members of the Khwe community. The work has produced educational materials to help younger generations learn their language and traditions, alongside a digital database reflecting Khwe knowledge and perspectives. Boden will present the results on 3 November at 10:00 at the University of Namibia, on 5 November at 18:00 at the Swakopmund Museum and on 18 November at 19:00 at the Namibia Scientific Society in Windhoek. Admission is free.
