Oscar Shatumbu - Mechanic

Oscar is a dedicated mechanic who studied at the Windhoek Vocational Training Centre and has a passion for machines and hands-on learning. He is developing his skills in mechanical systems, equipment maintenance and technical problem-solving while gaining practical experience in real-world engineering tasks.

Despite challenges such as understanding complex machinery and building experience, Oscar remains motivated and continues to grow professionally. “I enjoy teamwork, learning from experienced professionals, and seeing how machines work together,” he says.

Oscar believes mechanical engineering is an exciting and evolving field driven by new technologies and automation. He encourages young people to stay focused, work hard and keep learning, saying dedication and curiosity are important for success.

Raimo Ntuko - Boilmaker

Raimo, a boilermaker at GAIA Construction, says his passion for the field began at a young age.

“I started liking this work at 16 when I worked with my father during the holidays and saw people fabricating metal structures from scratch. I knew this was what I wanted to do,” he says.

Raimo, who studied at the Namibian Institute of Mining and Technology, explains that the job requires both skill and strength. “You must understand drawings, measurements and be ready to work in tough conditions,” he says.

“Every day brings a new challenge, and that is what keeps me motivated.”
